Depending on how you count the continents of the world, ignoring the antarctic as for a lack of typical cuisine (it’s fish with mostly fish after all), you’ll find food from every continent in the restaurants and snack bars of Salzburg:

Europe

You miss the taste of last year’s holidays at the beach? The Mediterranean restaurants of Salzburg bring the flavour of the sea to you: whether you want Greek or Italian food or any other southeast European mash-up – try yourself through the delicacies of the Balkan region.

Greek

There are a few good Greek restaurants in Salzburg. In Old Town “Sakis @ Posthof” invites for gyros and on the other side of the river Salzach there is “Marios Tavern” in Linzergasse.

  • Opening hours Sakis: Mon-Sat 11am-11pm
  • Opening hours Marios Tavern: Mon-Sun 11am to midnight

Italian

You don’t have to look out long for finding a pizzeria in Salzburg. Pizza, Pasta and more is easy to find around almost every corner. That’s why we highly recommend the small bistros and cosy restaurants, where pasta is still hand rolled and pizza is not even found on the menu – so very Italian is the whole thing…

“Pasta e Vino” in Wolf-Dietrich-Straße has great lunch offers and their antipasti plate is worth a visit, not even speaking about the typical-familiar Italian flair of the place.

Opening hours: Mon-Sat 9am-9:30pm

Bosna stalls & Kebabs

Turkish pizza, kebab and falafel are often found in Salzburg and many snack bars on the streets offer sausages until late. We trust, you don’t need any further explanations – just follow the smell.

Africa

At Afro Café at Bürgerspitalplatz you enjoy exotic food from the black continent as well as the colourful ambience and zest for life that is felt immediately after entering the place. The famous breakfast calls for a reservation!

On the menu are vegetarian and meat delicacies with the right kind of spiciness! Click yourself through the menu and get inspired by their recipes.

Opening hours: Mon-Sat 9am to midnight (kitchen until 10pm)

Asia

Also the Asian cuisine is popular in Salzburg and offers a wide variety of Asian restaurants, Wok-to-go’s and alternative little bistros. We ignore Chinese restaurants and focus on recommendable Asian cuisines in the city.

Vietnamese

At „Uncle Van“ in Lederergasse “natural kitchen” is served with charms. The boys here cook gluten free, lactose free and partly vegan but always 100% fresh and in front of you. The small place offers seating and in summer time the little “garden” transforms into a very romantic dinner place. You can also order to go and find yourself the perfect spot on the riverbank.

Opening hours: Mon-Fri 11am-10pm, Sat 12am-9pm.

Thai cuisine

Thai is said to be the best cuisine worldwide. Many of Salzburg’s Thais have brought their cooking knowledge with them when they settled down here. We recommend especially these two little Thai food stalls to go:

  • Lek Thai in Schallmooser Hauptstr.: Tue-Son 11am-8pm.
  • Donna’s Thaiküche in Leopoldskronstr.: daily from 11:45am-7:45pm.

Indian

Also lovers of Indian food find a great choice of restaurants in Salzburg. “Taj Mahal” in Bayerhamerstraße offers anything you might think of contemplating an Indian restaurant in Europe. Special detail in wintertime a dancing Santa Claus welcomes you at the door – a curiosity worth mentioning.

Opening hours: Mon-Fri 11:30am-2pm, 5:30pm-10:30 pm, Sat 5:30pm-10:30pm.

“Spicy Spices” offers a good alternative in Wolf-Dietrich-Straße. Most of the dishes are vegan, the menu is more of guidance and the owner, who is also the waiter and probably the cook of the place is a very charming creature.

Opening hours: Sun-Sat 11:30am-9pm.

North- & South America

Land of the burger: America

A burger can mean so much more than just „McDonald’s“ or „Burger King“ – as the cool and fair burger start-ups of Salzburg give evidence of. If you choose BioBurgerMeister or Pommes Boutique is left to you, but it is a fact – both of them are delicious, BIO and fair!

  • BioBurgerMeister in Linzergasse: Mon-Sun 11am-10pm.
  • Pommes Boutique on Mirabellplatz: Mon-Fri 11am-8pm, Sat 11a,-8pm.
  • Pommes Boutique on Rudolfsplatz: Mon-Fri 11am-8pm, Sun noon to 8pm.

Plus: Pommes Boutique is offering home delivery!

Argentinian

We guess there is a „Maredo“ in almost every German city. But also Salzburg is proud of having an Argentinean steak house. It is found in Judengasse in the heart of Salzburg’s Old Town.

Delicious Maredo streaks and skewers, but also a great variety at the salad buffet that is suitable as main dish for your vegetarian accompaniments, but also the baked potatoes are a delight. Steaks are grilled right on time and dishes are refined with sauces and dips.

Opening hours: Mon-Sun 11:30am-11:3pm.

Australia

At Australian speciality restaurant „Koala“ on Rudolfskai – the notorious nightlife area of Salzburg – you enjoy BBQ and delicacies off the red continent: ostrich burgers and kangaroo or crocodile steaks, grilled locusts and many exotic dishes more are waiting to be tasted. Due to the late closing time this place is a treat for a hungry stopover during partying.

Opening hours: Tue-Sun 5pm-2am.
