Nature and Animal Experience
Visit Salzburg Zoo
Salzburg Zoo is known for showing regional and exotic animals in their natural habitat. Snuggled up to Hellbrunn Mountain's west flank, the zoo uses the natural environment of the surrounding landforms and creates habitats that are very close to the ones the animals are used to.
Animals From Four Continents
The zoo area stretches over 14 hectare and accommodates 140 animal species (a total of around 1,400 animals) from Europe, Asia (combined to Eurasia), Africa and America. Congeneric animal communities can be watched here; the “African savanna”, for example, is home to the the white rhinoceros, antelope and guinea fowl. Another attraction in the Africa area is the lion house. The eurasian fauna includes local species like the Alpine ibex, marine otter and chamois as well as animals from far away, like the lesser panda and the white-handed gibbon. In the American part of the zoo you can see various different New World monkeys, rodents, fishes, amphibians, reptiles and South American birds.
